NV Energy supports youth oriented programs and organizations that focus on strong prevention and/or intervention activities and which empower young people to gain self confidence, independence and personal growth. Below are some highlights of NV Energy's commitment to youth development.

Building Partnerships

NV Energy partners with the Academy for Career Education (ACE) every year on the construction of an energy efficient custom home. The students are held to extremely high standards while building this home and are trained on every aspect of its construction. Leaders in the Building Trades support the school and this project. The result is a beautiful, fully loaded house that would be a great home for some lucky buyer.

A Tradition of Mentoring

NV Energy encourages our employees to share their knowledge and expertise by taking leadership roles at nonprofit agencies to help strengthen them. Junior Achievement, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada, the Girls Scouts of the Sierra Nevada and the Boys & Girls Clubs throughout Nevada are only some of the many organizations NV Energy has supported. Many NV Energy employees give their time to these types of organization by serving as board members as well as mentors.

Student Grant-Making and Volunteerism Program for Teens

We R Community is a collaboration between corporate sponsors and schools to create a powerful new model for teaching the value of philanthropic activities and aid to local nonprofit agencies in their own endeavors. NV Energy is proud to partner with the Public Education Foundation to provide Clark County students with an opportunity for real-life learning through philanthropy and volunteering. Established in 2008, We R Community catapults high school students into the world of philanthropy and nonprofit organizations by transforming the teens into donors. The program introduces students to the importance of leadership, service, philanthropy and the nonprofit sector by giving them the ability to fund programs they choose.

NV Energy Provides Youth with a Unique Training Program

"Future Leaders Embracing Diversity." The objectives of the program are to assist youth in developing the skills necessary to become effective leaders in all aspects of life; learning positive and effective living habits with enhanced confidence; self-esteem and increased awareness; an appreciation for all types of differences; achieving and maintaining a laser-like focus and enhanced problem solving abilities.

Held onsite at NV Energy, "Future Leaders Embracing Diversity" prepares youth for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Through various exercises, hands-on activities, instruction and discussion, they sharpen their personal and organizational leadership skills. Students also discover better ways to work within a team structure while improving their ability to work in different environments. Past program graduates, their families, friends and leaders have called the experience "an awakening", "powerful," and even "life changing."
