Supporting Disease Research, Treatment and Education
NV Energy support organizations with goals to find treatments and cures for diseases. Some of the organizations that have received numerous grants and donations from NV Energy are the American Heart Association, the Susan G. Komen Foundation and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
In 2008, NV Energy made a $1 million donation to the Nevada Cancer Institute (NVCI) to assist in their efforts to provide exemplary research, treatment and education for its clients in the state of Nevada. Michael Yackira, NV Energy president and chief executive officer, said that this is an important gift, not just for NVCI, but also for the community at large. "We are a partner in the community and we understand that many of our customers are in the position of needing the world-class care available at Nevada Cancer Institute," Yackira said. "We hope by showing our support for NVCI, other companies will follow our lead in supporting such a great resource in our own back yard."
American Red Cross Partnership
NV Energy continually partners with the American Red Cross on disaster relief education. NV Energy provided a grant to the American Red Cross to fund a partnership with the Nevada Rural Counties Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) to prepare frail and homebound seniors for potential disasters. The program has expanded to include seniors in Reno/Sparks. RSVP volunteers met with seniors in their homes and developed a disaster preparedness checklist. In addition, volunteers provided each senior with an American Red Cross disaster kit, donated by NV Energy.
